Today’s the day! A perfect day to break promises. And this time, it’s a promise that won’t let anyone down. Especially not yourself. In fact, it’s a promise that brings with it an opportunity to renew a life. Your life. I hope you recognize the significance of today. It’s not the day. It’s not even your commitment, as admirable as it is.

I read your article and about all the things you want to do. You even spoke of the people in your life that you lost and how much they meant to you. What you neglected to mention though is the qualities and memories you have in your own life. How typical. Well, I suppose this allows me the chance to do so for you. Call it an early birthday present if you’d like. I hope you see this list of characteristics and moments you’ve given to me as proof. Proof that the commitment you’re making isn’t the best gift for you. Rather, your true gift to yourself should be finally realizing that all along you, the version you are now, is and will continue to be the true gift.
