I need someone I can learn from. Not an instructor, but a teacher. A person who has experienced the things that I’m working towards. I’m not after theoretical knowledge, or tricks of the trade, nor someone to pat me on the back. Knowledge is the thing I’m ultimately after.

For context; I’m a storyteller by trade. My chosen mediums are writing and stand up, however, I’m not really seeking knowledge in those areas. As I’ve learned recently, those skills are enhanced over time so long as there is passion, consistency, and reflection. I’m after knowledge not as readily available to me. Over the next 10 years, I’m trying to use my skills to build what I think are pretty cool projects. This is where I need some guidance.

The projects vary in form but their ultimate nature is rooted in stories. Some stories require technology like an app to scale, others need partnerships with people and venues, others design and production support.

To be clear, I’m not looking for a hand out. Rather, I just want to learn from people who are good at what they do. For the sake of my own curiosity, I want to hear each of their experiences as experts in their craft.

Why would you want to teach me?

Well let me start with the glaringly obvious; I’ll buy you lunch. Or a coffee, or a drink if you’re so inclined. Beyond learning from you, I sincerely want to get to know you. Secondly, I want to use the lessons that you teach me. Your time will not be wasted and your words won’t fall on deaf ears. In fact, your advice will be instrumental to the projects I’m working on. This leads me to my third point, you may be invited to be a part of what I’m building. I will be able to emulate some of the things you’ll teach me; others are better suited for a master. Therefore, if you like any of the things I’m building, by all means join the team. And finally, and most importantly to me, your advice will go toward bringing joy to people through stories. We don’t talk about it enough but we’re all going to die. I know, it’s fucking morbid and wild that I’m bringing it up right now of all times, but it’s true. One of the rare things that survives the test of time is good stories. For me, I can’t think of any better way to spend my life than trying to tell some good ones. My hope is that you share that belief.

So, that’s my spiel. If you have specific knowledge in any of the areas I mentioned above and want to teach me something, I’m dying to hear from you. Not like actually dying… Well, on second thought I suppose I’m technically dying right now… So yeah. There’s your urgency. Hit me up before I die!
